Elizabeth David - A life of discovery and influence

‘Provence is a country to which I am always returning, next week, next year, any day now, as soon as I can get on a train’

Elizabeth David

Elizabeth David Matters is a relatively new community of people looking to advance, to explain and continue in the legacy of Elizabeth David’s dynamic approach to food, cookery and related writings. In many ways, Elizabeth David was ahead of her time in endorsing and in emphasising the merits of local and seasonal produce; writing vehemently against mass-produced foods which have little nutritional or culinary value.

Elizabeth David travelled widely throughout Europe and the western Lavant, sampling produce, recipes, wines and local culture. We hope to offer our subscribers the opportunity to follow in her footsteps and rediscover the roots of her original recipes and the cultural heritage of the many regions that she encountered and embraced.

We are currently exploring the possibility of culinary events with various chefs and restaurants as well as travel opportunities with specialist facilitators.

Elizabeth David’s influence extends well beyond the British Isles, to North America, Europe, Australasia and even further afield. We hope that, wherever you live, we will, in time, be able to offer culinary and travel opportunities that you may choose to engage in.

‘Fresh, seasonal ingredients are the building blocks of delicious meals’

We welcome suggestions and, indeed, association with subscribers who have viable proposals for culinary events or travel opportunities which further the scope and reach of Elizabeth David Matters. On our Contribute page we invite you to share with us your thoughts or proposals, be that a current venture or a suggestion for a new opportunity.

This is an exciting journey and we hope you will join us in the adventure much as Elizabeth David did for the first time when she found herself back in 1950s Britain and looked to rediscover the world of delicious food, appetising recipes and good-quality ingredients that she had found on her travels.
